Insurance Renewal Yacht Surveys

South West England and Wales

Many yacht insurers require a current survey before they will renew cover — particularly for boats over a certain age or value. An insurance renewal survey from Ardenna Yacht Surveys gives your insurer the independent assessment they need, while also giving you peace of mind that your vessel is in sound condition. We produce professional, clear survey reports accepted by major marine insurers, and cover the South West and South Coast of England and Wales.

When Does Your Insurer Require a Survey?

Insurance requirements vary between providers, but you will often be asked for a survey if your boat is over ten years old, if you are switching insurer, if the boat has not been surveyed in the last five years, or if you are increasing the declared value. Some insurers specify that surveys must be carried out by a member of a recognised professional body.

Simon Ransome-Williams is an Associate Member of the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors (AMCMS) and a member of IMarEST. His surveys meet the requirements of leading marine insurers.

What an Insurance Survey Covers

Fast Turnaround and Clear Reports

Yacht Survey Coverage Area

Based in Lyme Regis, we cover boatyards and marinas across Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Hampshire and the South Wales coast. Whether your boat is in Poole, Dartmouth, Plymouth or Swansea, we can help.

An insurance renewal survey is primarily a condition survey — it assesses the current state of the yacht to establish whether it is seaworthy and correctly valued for insurance purposes. It is not as extensive as a full pre-purchase survey, but it is thorough and covers all the key structural and safety elements.

  • Hull condition and osmosis check

  • Deck and superstructure integrity

  • Rigging and mast condition

  • Engine and mechanical systems

  • Safety equipment and flares

  • Electrical systems

  • Valuation (agreed value for insurance purposes)

We understand that insurance renewals often come with tight deadlines. We aim to schedule surveys promptly and deliver written reports quickly, so you are not left without cover. Reports are written in plain English and include clear recommendations so you know exactly what your insurer is looking at.
